Taylor Swift’s Harris Endorsement Backfires

Taylor Swift came out with an endorsement for Kamala Harris for president 27 minutes after the ABC debate ended and now some of her fans are saying “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” (a Swift song title). Swift, who just recently became the newest member of America’s billionaire club may soon lose that status before the election even takes place. To become and remain a music star like Swift requires the creation of new music that sells and constant touring.

Just recently Swift had to abruptly cancel three concerts over threats of a possible terrorist attack. The last-minute cancellations affected more than 150,000 fans. Many of those fans had flown thousands of miles, and spent thousands of dollars, to travel from the United States and other countries as a workaround for Swifties to snag a bargain on tickets to her blockbuster Eras Tour. The tickets were a lot cheaper in Europe than in the United States. Some of these tickets could still cost thousands of dollars each by resellers.

What Taylor Swift and many of her cult-like followers (Swifties) are failing to understand is the world is less safe today than it was 4 years ago. Two main reasons why Swift would be targeted are her revealing costumes on stage and consistent messages of empowerment of women. Islamic fundamentalists around the world have a problem with both her appearance and messaging and this gives them cause (in their minds) to attack her.

Swift made her announcement of her endorsement to Kamala Harris on social media platforms such as Instagram.

“I will be casting my vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 Presidential Election. I’m voting for @kamalaharris because she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them,” Swift wrote. “I think she is a steady-handed, gifted leader and I believe we can accomplish so much more in this country if we are led by calm and not chaos. I was so heartened and impressed by her selection of running mate @timwalz, who has been standing up for LGBTQ+ rights, IVF, and a woman’s right to her own body for decades.”

One of those to go scorched earth on Taylor Swift in a most articulate way was journalist podcaster Megyn Kelly interviewed by fellow journalist podcaster Tucker Carlson.

In this interview Kelly explains how Minnesota Governor Tim Walz has signed into Minnesota law specific transgender laws which are no doubt unconstitutional. The laws allow minor children to come to Minnesota, have the courts and state take custody of those minor children, and perform gender modification medical procedures (drugs and surgeries) without the knowledge or consent of their parents or guardians and this could even happen to children who travel interstate!

One news podcast content provider did an excellent job explaining how the Taylor Swift endorsement actually hurt Kamala Harris as well as Taylor Swift.

There are things to really admire and respect Taylor Swift for and things where you really wonder what is wrong with her.

She is known not just as an excellent songwriter and singer but also business woman. And if you hate her for her celebrity, her work, and the fact she is America’s newest billionaire, well, that makes her very much like Donald Trump because many hate Trump for those same reasons, true irony.

But what makes you wonder about her is why she would seemingly self-sabotage her brand when so many other people are dependent on her for their livelihoods!

For example; Her Eras Tour generated an estimated $5 billion in consumer spending in North America last year. Swift, herself, earns around $14 million from a single concert. But she is a boon to individual cities who host her concerts. London’s city government estimated its economy grew by almost $400 million, American, from her eight concerts held there.

CONCLUSION:

Taylor Swift has really brought out the worst of Americans as well as herself in this election cycle. She has even divided her own followers as we now have “Swifties for Trump” whereby an entire new market of merchandise has been created which she will never get a single dime.

Toby Keith was the only performing artist to come forward for Donald Trump’s 2017 Inauguration Party.

A report by YouGov offered 8% of voters said Swift’s endorsement is either “somewhat” or “much more likely” to convince them to cast their ballot for Kamala Harris. But a whopping 20% said they are “somewhat” or “much less likely” to vote for Harris after Swift’s endorsement.

There are false rumors such as “Taylor Swift lost $125 million in brand deals following her endorsement decision of voting for Kamala Harris” but this story is false. Another false rumor is “Taylor Swift cancels Eras Tour dates after endorsement backlash: ‘Only 2,300 Tickets Sold.’” Also, there is no truth to the rumor “Coca-Cola ends its long-term partnership with Taylor Swift over Kamala Harris endorsement”.

Swift will no doubt feel at least a slight financial hit from her endorsement of Harris but spreading such misinformation is wrong. Hillary Clinton wants you to go to jail for doing it (where you might commit suicide).
