America faces a historic election – with disastrous consequences

The 2024 presidential race in the United States has undergone a significant transformation. With fewer than 100 days left until Election Day, the campaign landscape is changing with new candidates, a shift in key issues, and an updated perspective for both major parties.

Vice President Kamala Harris stepped in for Biden last Sunday, quickly breaking fundraising records, gaining massive social media traction, and sparking enthusiasm that some Democrats say is reminiscent of the excitement surrounding Barack Obama’s historic campaign nearly twenty years ago. Harris’s energetic entry into the race has infused her supporters with a renewed sense of excitement and anticipation.

Harris represented California in the U.S. Senate for four years before becoming vice president in January 2021. She previously held the positions of California attorney general and San Francisco district attorney. Her substantial experience in public service and her groundbreaking candidacy as the first woman of color with a strong chance of becoming president are key elements of her campaign’s story.

However, Harris’s past comments and policy platforms indicate the direction she plans to take if she wins the presidency on Nov. 5.

She has been a staunch advocate for progressive policies, including expanding healthcare access through a Medicare-for-All system, advocating for comprehensive immigration reform, and pushing for substantial investments in renewable energy to combat climate change.

Harris has also championed criminal justice reform, aiming to address systemic inequalities and end practices such as private prisons and cash bail.

Don’t forget that Harris voiced support for “defund the police” in a radio interview in June 2020 amid nationwide protests for police reform, just months before denouncing the movement after she had joined the Biden presidential campaign.

But Harris’s policies will be damaging for America for several reasons.

Her support for Medicare-for-All will lead to increased government spending and higher taxes, potentially stifling economic growth and burdening businesses.

Her immigration policies have already led to weaker border security and we will only see increased illegal immigration, which strains public resources and impacts national security.

Many critics argue that raising the minimum wage to $15 an hour will lead to job losses, particularly in small businesses, and increased prices for consumers. Harris’s proposed higher taxes on the wealthy and corporations will stifle economic growth and investment.

And Harris’s education policies make no sense. Tuition-free college will lead to increased government spending and higher taxes. The feasibility and effectiveness of such programs is questionable and the potential impact on private educational institutions is problematic.

We must criticize Harris’s stance on criminal justice reform, as her attitude on the matter will lead to increased crime rates by being too lenient on offenders.

Her leftist, aggressive approach to climate change, including potential regulations and taxes on carbon emissions, are hurting industries reliant on fossil fuels and have caused widespread job losses.

Harris’s platform of equity and sustainability reflects a dystopian vision for America and does not focus on the real issues.

As president, she will only contribute to the sharp ideological divide in the country. Together with her policies, she is beholden to the progressive left and such a radical shift in American leadership will have significant economic and social implications.

As the election draws nearer, the debate over her potential presidency will likely intensify, highlighting the contrasting visions for America’s future between her supporters and detractors.

Hopefully, this time, the best candidate wins.
