State Department Says Chinese Satellite Company Supporting Houthi Attacks on US Interests

The Epoch Times Header

Beijingโ€™s support of the company โ€˜is yet another example of Chinaโ€™s empty claims to support peace,โ€™ State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce said.

The U.S. State Department has dismissed communist Chinaโ€™s self-proclaimed role as a โ€œglobal peacemaker,โ€ saying that a Beijing-supported Chinese satellite company has directly supported the Iran-backed Houthi terrorist groupโ€™s attacks on U.S. interests.

At a regular news briefing on April 17, State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce confirmed that Chang Guang Satellite Technology โ€œis directly supportingโ€ the Houthis and called such action โ€œunacceptable.โ€

โ€œChina consistently attempts โ€ฆ to frame itself as a global peacemaker,โ€ she said.

โ€œHowever, it is clear that Beijing and China-based companies provide key economic and technical support to regimes like Russia, North Korea, and Iran and its proxies.

โ€œThe CCP [Chinese Communist Party] continues to enable these regimes, whether it be through the provision of dual-use items Russia needs to sustain its war in Ukraine, North Koreaโ€™s ballistic missile development, or Iranโ€™s support of terrorism across the Middle East.โ€

She said that the Chinese satellite companyโ€™s assistance to the Houthis continued even though the U.S. government had held โ€œprivate engagementsโ€ with the Chinese regime on the issue.

โ€œTheir actions and Beijingโ€™s support of the company โ€ฆ is yet another example of Chinaโ€™s empty claims to support peace,โ€ Bruce said. โ€œWe urge our partners to judge the Chinese Communist Party and Chinese companies on their actions, not their empty words.โ€

Bruce emphasized President Donald Trumpโ€™s commitment to restoring freedom of navigation in the Red Sea as a priority, adding that the United States โ€œwill not tolerate anyone providing support to foreign terrorist organizations.โ€

The U.S. military has been striking Houthi targets in Yemen since March 15, following Trumpโ€™s order with the promise of using โ€œoverwhelming lethal forceโ€ to restore navigational freedom in the region.

On April 17, the U.S. Central Command said the U.S. military had destroyed Yemenโ€™s Ras Isa fuel port, saying that it had been used by the Houthis as a source of funds and supplies, according to a statement on social media platform X.

โ€œThe Houthis, their Iranian masters, and those who knowingly aid and abet their terrorist actions should be put on notice that the world will not accept illicit smuggling of fuel and war material to a terrorist organization,โ€ the command added.

Rep. Joe Wilson (R-S.C.), who sits on the House Armed Services and Foreign Affairs committees, took to X on Thursday to respond to the news of the Chinese satellite companyโ€™s assistance to the Houthis, pointing to the alliance that has included Russian President Vladimir Putin.

โ€œConnect the dots: War Criminal Putin, the CCP, and the terrorist regime in Tehran all working together to support Houthi terrorists against the Yemeni people and government,โ€ Wilson wrote. โ€œRule of gun versus rule of law.โ€
