Capito Unveils GOP Infrastructure Framework

Senator Shelley Moore Capito, Ranking Member of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, leads the press conference to announce the Senate Republicans infrastructure proposal as she and Republican colleagues mapped out what a real bipartisan infrastructure package should look like.

In a tweet on April 22, Sen. Capito says, “Letโ€™s be clear, @potusโ€™ proposal goes beyond what constitutes infrastructure. Today, we set a clear path forward on core principles that DEFINE infrastructure & address our countryโ€™s needs. This framework continues our conversations w/Democrat colleagues & the administration.”

Capito: We Need To Focus On Core Infrastructure

WASHINGTON, D.C. โ€“ U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.), Ranking Member of the Senate Environment and Public Works (EPW) Committee, today hosted a press conference along with Senator Roger Wicker (R-Miss.) focused on infrastructure. During the press conference, Senator Capito and her Republican colleagues mapped out what a real bipartisan infrastructure package should look like

HIGHLIGHTS:DEFINING INFRASTRUCTURE: โ€œI think itโ€™s important to define what infrastructure is because I think what we saw from the presidentโ€™s $2.2 trillion packageโ€”his definition of infrastructure is a lot different than what mine isโ€”although there are a lot of similarities.โ€

HISTORY OF BIPARTISANSHIP: โ€œIโ€™m working with Senator Carper every day to try to get a bipartisan surface transportation bill, but thatโ€™s not the only thing that I think will be a part. Thatโ€™s our roads and bridges, our core infrastructure that all of us in our states want. Through the years weโ€™ve come together in bipartisan way and negotiated these bills time and time again.โ€

FINDING THAT SWEET SPOT: โ€œBut we are very different I think when you look at what core infrastructure means to you. I said roads and bridges, I also mean water and wastewater projects, our airport modernizations, broadband is a huge part of thatโ€ฆI characterized it yesterday as our โ€˜sweet spot.โ€™ I think thatโ€™s the sweet spot of where we can join together, and the American people can actually see us negotiate a package where we all believe very strongly in devoting resources, time, and effort into modernizing infrastructure across the country.โ€
