Shabby tent encampments were erected in city parks, along streets, and beneath overpasses. Homeless people, many with mental health or drug problems, sprawled across sidewalks or subway seats. Needles and other paraphernalia are often nearby. America’s homelessness scourge is huge and shows few signs of getting better.

The pictures, and the numbers, say it all. See below an infographic that shows the state of homeless in America and learn more here.

In the video below, a visit was made to one of the most unique homeless encampments in the US. Cob on Wood is a community of housed and unhoused people who came together to create practical solutions for the homelessness crisis. They used wooden pallets insulated with straw, clothes, and waste products to build these extremely affordable “cobins” on Wood Street in Oakland. Is this the future for many Americans in the US?

California and New York City lead the nation in homelessness. Though nationwide, the homeless issue has remained constant, in key Democratic cities strongholds, the problem continues to exacerbate. See specific New York City homeless numbers in the chart below and learn more here.

You may believe it is not useful to politicize this issue, but the data seem to strongly support the idea that the majority of the homeless issue comes from Democratic city strongholds – New York and California being Democratic strongholds and Florida and Texas being Republican. See this in the chart below and learn more here.

Perhaps it’s time for Democratic stronghold cities to look beyond their own failing policies to other parts of the US and adopt new policies that work better for the people they are pledged to serve. Give us your take in the comment section below.
