On Sunday, January 16, 2021 an FBI agent filed an affidavit supporting a criminal arrest warrant against a Virginia man. According to the affidavit, Thomas Caldwell, 65, discussed plans on New Year’s Day with others regarding their intentions to unlawfully enter a government building, and to engage in disruptive and disorderly conduct and other offenses.

President Trump’s critics have accused him of inciting the siege, with a speech at a rally earlier in the day. However those first entering the building did not attend the speech and entered the Capitol building before President Trump finished speaking.
