President Biden’s Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona has been implicated in efforts by the administration to vilify concerned parents speaking out against their local school boards. According to emails obtained via FOIA request (and below), the National School Board Association’s now-infamous letter likening the activities of parents to “domestic terrorism” was sent at the request of Secretary Cardona.
Parents ought to be confident that federal education policy is being set by someone who understands and respects their rights. It is clear based on his actions that Secretary Cardona does not respect parents but is rather an anti-parent extremist. He has no business running the U.S. Department of Education.
New FOIA Document Asserts NSBA Letter Was Drafted at Request of Education Secretary
January 11. 2022 ~ In newly obtained emails between National School Boards Association board members Marnie Maldonado and Kristi Swett dated October 5-6, 2021, Ms. Swett —an officer of the NSBA board currently serving as secretary-treasurer —asserts that Chip Slaven (who was, at the time, the interim executive director of NSBA) “told the officers he was writing a letter to provide information to the White House, from a request by Secretary Cordona” [sic].
This is the first such mention of Secretary Cardona’s involvement in the creation of the NSBA’s since-retracted letter requesting federal intervention in school board issues.
