We know this because the quake was recorded by the famous historian Josephus at the exact time of the famous Battle of Actium, on September 2 of 31 B.C. It’s clearly documented not just historically, but physically. The Actium quake created a geophysical record in the strata of the Dead Sea that can be seen today.
