As the death anniversary of top Iranian commander Major General Qassem Soleimani approaches, Iran has reiterated its vow to avenge his death.
‘We faced a great sorrow and pain in the early days of the year, the martyrdom of our great general (Qassem Soleimani) in a brutal assassination by American officials, mainly the President of the United States and his Secretary of State. These two are among the main culprits of this crime. Of course others had a role too, and our nation will not leave them alone,’ Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said.
In January this year, a U.S. airstrike near Baghdad’s airport killed Soleimani leading to escalation of tensions between the two countries.
